FRIDAY
KEN SLAVIN Sage Ristorante e Bar at the Fairmount Hotel (8 p.m.) -- The ace jazz crooner is back and he has bassist Chuck Moses and pianist Morris Nelms with him. Slavin, Moses and Joe Piscatelle, the late pianist, spent more than three years working the Fairmount. Slavin's return is good news. An entertainer with a deep classic jazz/pop repertoire, Slavin makes regulars and newcomers, locals and tourists feel welcome. He also keeps alive the classy jazz saloon singer tradition. Remember, this is San Antonio, so classy doesn't necessarily mean snooty.

FRIDAY
KEN SLAVIN'S "JUST YOU, JUST ME"

Church Bistro & Theatre (8 p.m.) -- If Slavin was nervous at the opening of his new show, he certainly didn't show it. The crooner was at home in the restored theater and in a cabaret setting. Slavin delivered his standard repertoire plus surprises including a few movie tunes, a couple of country songs and even some comedy. And, for Roger Miller fans, there's a great rendition of "King of the Road." You don't have to apologize for joining in. The two-act show continues with an 8 p.m. show Saturday and a final curtain at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $20, $35 with dinner/brunch. Call (210) 271-7791.
